Best of The Burbs: Why We ♥︎ Shelley

Since its early days as a lure for market gardeners and fruit growers competing to secure blocks for £10 an acre, Shelley has consistently been a sought-after riverside location.

These days Shelley commands a median house price of $930,000 and has evolved into one of Perth’s most spectacularly beautiful neighbourhoods.

Pulse Property Group director Di Addenbrooke said that while Shelley was bordered by Leach Highway and sat close to some of the southern suburbs’ most sophisticated infrastructure, it remained a peaceful and protected community enclave for families, couples and singles chasing an easy commute and an active and healthy waterside lifestyle.

“Shelley is popular with buyers because it falls within the high-demand Rossmoyne Senior High School catchment,” she said. “Not to mention its access to the lovely Shelley Foreshore Reserve and an abundance of small parks and playgrounds.”

The team at Pulse Property Group has put together their top 5 Shelley favourites.

FAB 5

Weekend barbie at Shelley Beach Park

Nestled on the Canning River between Watersby Crescent and Beatrice Avenue, this most gorgeous community asset with its wide-open spaces and magnificent river and skyline views is surely one of Perth’s most gorgeous picnic spots. We love the Blessing of the River, the Australia Day celebrations and the New Year fireworks, but we’re also pretty happy kicking the footy or reading a book from the street library under the tuarts and flooded gums. Aaaah, how’s the serenity?!

Breakfast at Tribute Coffee & Kitchen

Who can resist the saffron apple pancakes covered in choc hazelnut lupin granola, salted caramel and pistachio praline, and plump, fresh strawberries? Not to mention the coffee! Open daily from 7am-2pm on Tribute Street West.

Anyone for Tennis?

Now in its fifth decade, the Corinthian Park Tennis Club offers social and competitive tennis plus a range of coaching opportunities. With 15 grass, six all-weather under lights and four modern plexi-cushion courts, this wonderful club provides an essential suburban network and is an important part of the suburb’s community fabric.

Paddle the Shelley Foreshore

Hire a Stand-Up Paddleboard or kayak or take part in a lesson. Every Saturday and Sunday from 8am-noon during Summer, boards are available on the sand just south of the jetty. They are $20 per hour or grab a party SUP (8-person) for $99!

Batter Up

Grab a few dollars’ worth of chips, a couple of pieces of fresh fish and some homemade squid rings from Shelley Fish & Chips and head to the Shelley Foreshore for a sunset picnic. Unbeatable! You’ll find them in Shelley Hub on Tribute Street West, and they’re open daily until 8pm.
